Lake Tahoe is located in Northern California in the Western United States. The Heavenly Ski Resort is located on the south end of Lake Tahoe with resort access in the heart of the town of South Lake Tahoe, Southwest of town and also two mountain bases to the East of town on the Nevada side of the resort. Heavenly Ski Area is the closest resort to the town of South Lake Tahoe.
Heavenly Ski Resort (mountain base):
Most of the skiers at Heavenly drove from San Francisco or Reno.
Highway 28 is the road to Heavenly heading South along the Western shore of Lake Tahoe and is often closed due to avalanches or avalanche conditions near Emerald Bay. Check the Caltrans website for conditions on Hwy 28 and to see if it is open for travel. Google maps is often wrong, delayed or does not have the latest status.
Parking:
Heavenly has limited and expensive parking at the downtown South Lake Tahoe Heavenly Village at the gondola base. There is an abundance of parking at the base of the tram (California Lodge at the end of Keller Road) and it is typically your best option. There is also paking at the Boulder Lodge base and Stagecoach Lodge base areas on the Nevada side of the mountain but space is more limited. Getting to the Stagecoach base may be more challenging especially when roads are slick due to the steepness in the grade of the road leading there. On peak weekends the parking lots will fill up as early as 7:30 am to 8:00 am. A shuttle bus connects all four base lodge areas.
