Where is Utah? Utah is a state in the Western United States of America with the Wasatch Mountain range stretching from the Idaho boarder, South to the center of the state which provides most of the ski and boarding terrain. This mountain range is the product of over 20 million years of geologic activity, peaking to over eleven thousand feet and is considered to be the western edge of the greater Rocky Mountains. Utah is know for its light powder snow due to the elevation of its mountains and dry climate. On average the snow density (Snow Water Equivalent) is 8.5% (compared to the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California which range from 10 to 12%). Technically Colorado's powder is lighter with a slightly lower snow density (7% on average) but the trade is that Utah gets more powder. Salt Lake City is the capital and largest primary city which provides the airport for the region. Most of the major ski resorts are located within two hours of Salt Lake City airport.

Note that some resorts have double black diamond type terrain but just bundle it all under a black diamond rating without distinguishing between single and double black diamond ratings.
